In today's world there is considerable thought given to ways of coping with physical illness. As a longtime student of Christian Science, I turned naturally and immediately to God for healing when I was faced with physical illness two years ago. Suddenly one night I found myself on the bathroom floor, suffering from an apparent stroke and unable to move. Normally I live alone, but at this time my grandson was visiting me. He was, though, in a part of the house where it would have been impossible for him to hear me call—which I did not do, for I was perfectly assured of God's present help.
During moments of keener alertness, I prayed aloud "the scientific statement of being" from page 468 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. A phrase from the same book came with insistence to my thought: ". . . perfect God and perfect man,—as the basis of thought and demonstration." The full sentence reads (p. 259): "The Christlike understanding of scientific being and divine healing includes a perfect Principle and idea,— perfect God and perfect man,—as the basis of thought and demonstration."
It was several hours before I was found, but I can truly say that during that time I didn't feel agitated or fearful; I felt a wonderfully quiet sense of God's loving presence.
