Christian Science not only heals but is the way of Life. Mrs. Eddy writes in the textbook of Christian Science, Science and Health (p. 426): "The discoverer of Christian Science finds the path less difficult when she has the high goal always before her thoughts, than when she counts her footsteps in endeavoring to reach it. When the destination is desirable, expectation speeds our progress."
When I was a young woman I went to New York City to become an actress. During one show an elderly woman in the cast took a motherly interest in me. Just before the show closed for the season she gave me a book, saying she knew I would get a lot out of it and suggesting I read from it each day. The book was Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.
My friend had not explained anything about the teachings of Christian Science, or about the Church itself or Mrs. Eddy. But for many years, during which time I married and raised a family, I read from the book every night. It was wonderfully comforting, especially during the Depression and World War II.
