The foundation that sustains a Reader

From the September 1987 issue of The Christian Science Journal

You may not have expected it, but suddenly you find your name mentioned in connection with the election for First or Second Reader of your branch Church of Christ, Scientist. What's your response?

This high calling warrants prayerful consideration. Reading is a task some feel ready for, while others shrink from its responsibilities. Preparation starts long before the actual business meeting or the election. It's a preparation that is going on in your life every day you are a Christian Scientist.

Experience in Christian Science is important. One needs more than a mere academic command of the Bible or the writings of Mrs. Eddy. It is a practical understanding and application of these spiritual guides that prepares one for the post.
