"The armour of light"

From the September 1987 issue of The Christian Science Journal

An "armour of light"? This phrase is used by Paul, the faithful and intrepid apostle of Christ Jesus, in his letter to the Romans.

Yet we often think of armor as something much more solid and tangible, something that repels the projectiles of an enemy. How can light be such an armor? Perhaps it is because darkness can never continue in the presence of light. Light simply obliterates darkness.

If we consider the spiritual meaning of light in the Bible, we find an even better reason for considering light an invincible armor. The Scriptures call God "the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." James 1:17. The theme of light is very much present in the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation. And the discussion of light does not always have to do with sun, moon, and stars.
