Christian Science came into our family in 1896 through the healing of my mother as a teen-ager. She had been out of school for two years because of ill health and had been told that her only hope lay in an exploratory operation. But at that time my grandmother heard of Christian Science, and the family decided to seek help through prayer from a Christian Science practitioner. My mother was healed in less than two weeks and lived for seventy-five years thereafter, relying completely on Christian Science to meet her every need.
One of my first healings in which I directly participated occurred after the back of one hand had become covered with warts while I was attending a summer camp. On my return home from camp, I told my mother that there were twenty-three of them, and she remarked, "Don't you think God can heal them?" I agreed that I knew He could. Some time later when I happened to remember our conversation, I noticed that my hand was completely smooth. The warts were gone.
Since then there have been many occasions for gratitude. To name a few: physical healings of the effects of inhaling a poisonous gas while working in an industrial chemical lab, of the smoking habit, and of a skin rash; employment secured and financial obligations met; and business and relationship problems worked out harmoniously. Each of these experiences taught me a lesson and provided the spiritual understanding needed to work out other problems, for which I am very grateful.
