I first became aware of Christian Science when a friend lent me a book relating the experiences of someone who united with the Christian Science movement in its early days. I was attracted to the idea of being able to prove an understanding of God in practical ways.
Shortly afterwards I got in touch with a Christian Science practitioner. The simplicity of spiritual truth and inspiration which she shared with me at our first meeting made me feel buoyant with the expectancy and certainty of God's goodness. I also left with a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy tucked firmly under my arm, and the book is still my constant companion, together with the Bible. Since that day my study and love of Christian Science have grown with my understanding of it.
At one point a rash developed on my hands. I had not had a lot of experience as a Christian Scientist, but I felt sure that the condition must respond to prayerful treatment. So I began to pray for myself, endeavoring to learn more of the perfection of God and His spiritual creation, and man's consequent inseparability from his Maker. There was marked improvement, but when the situation did not yield completely, for a few days I had prayerful help from a practitioner.
