"Thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones" (Isa. 57:15).
The truth of this Biblical promise was evidenced to me several years ago in a time of great need. I had just finished playing tennis and was walking off the court; my opponent had already gone to the dressing room. Suddenly my heart began racing and I was near collapse. I reached out to God in prayer.
The first thought that immediately came to me was that "Love alone is Life" (from Poems by Mrs. Eddy, p. 7). I knew that as God's spiritual idea, I truly lived in divine Love, not in matter. Standing beside the tennis court, I persisted in this line of reasoning for quite some time. I strove to perceive man's existence as spiritual, independent of the material senses. Finally the attack receded somewhat and I felt calmer. I showered and dressed, but with a great sense of trepidation. I could see that I had more serious praying to do concerning the situation. The fact that I had been able to overcome the attack, however, gave me great courage to proceed.
