From a letter to The Christian Science Journal

From the May 1988 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"If we are going to maintain the interest of the newcomers we are attracting, what better 'schoolroom' can we provide than interesting and inspiring firsthand testimonies proving the application of spiritual truths to everyday current problems?...

"Many years ago after a Wednesday evening meeting several people were discussing in the foyer that there had not been very many testimonies that evening, when one of the members cautioned that we must never forget that testimonies come by inspiration, not by invitation. This thought has served me well several times when I have felt it has been too long since I gave my last testimony, falling back on the crutch that I had not been inspired to do so. Where can I find this inspiration? Since the last Wednesday evening meeting I have had the opportunity to study two different Bible Lessons, I have just listened to the readings prepared for that evening, I have been exposed to all sorts of inspiration all week in the form of the religious periodicals and The Christian Science Monitor that arrive by mail, and, most important, sometime during the past week I can trace the solution of a problem to either consciously or unconsciously applying the many scientific facts available to me by the study of Christian Science."
