From the Directors

An important statement on Christian Science nursing

From the May 1988 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In recent years The Christian Science Board of Directors has been reexamining the foundation on which Christian Science nursing rests. This has been done to see more clearly how the foundation for Christian Science nursing is coincident with the mission of the Church of Christ, Scientist.

Mary Baker Eddy's provision for the Christian Science nurse appears in Article VIII, Section 31, of the Manual of The Mother Church in the chapter entitled "Discipline" under the article heading "Guidance of Members."

This By-Law, then, has something to do with the spiritual progress of each Mother Church member as well as with the mission of our Church. (See Mrs. Eddy's statements in Miscellaneous Writings 148:14-17 [to;] and The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany 230:10-14.)
