In the mid 1870s, a carpenter with a paralyzed arm came to the doorstep of a home on Broad Street in Lynn, Massachusetts. Someone had said that the owner of the home, Mary Baker Glover (later Mrs. Eddy), could heal him through prayer. When he arrived, although she was only able to speak to him for a few moments through an open window, the man was completely healed.See We Knew Mary Baker Eddy (Boston: The Christian Science Publishing Society, 1979), p. 10.
This is one of the accounts of healing that visitors to Mrs. Eddy's home at 12 Broad Street (formerly number 8) in Lynn hear on a guided tour. This home, as well as Mrs. Eddy's last residence at 400 Beacon Street in Chestnut Hill, west of Boston, is open to the public from May 1 until October 31, and the rest of the year by appointment. Detailed information is available from the Visitors' Tour Center located in the Christian Science Publishing House.
The homes, maintained by The Mother Church, are places of historic interest to Christian Scientists and to many others. Tour guides present factual information and answer visitors' questions.
