Should it be surprising to think of the Christian Science movement as still new? As someone once said, "A movement moves." Articles on the subject of Church and movement will appear regularly in this section.

The center of the Church

From the July 1988 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When the new buildings in The Mother Church complex were still under construction, I never could find my way around! The scaffolding, bricks, boards, and surface changes confused me. Directed to various entrances, I was never quite sure where I stood. Finally someone pointed out to me that there was a model of the complex on display. When I consulted this model my sense of direction became clear.

In the Manual of The Mother Church, Mrs. Eddy provides us with a model of our Church's institutional structure. Daily the Church of Christ, Scientist, moves forward, fulfilling its potential as revealed in the Manual. We can always turn to our model, given in the Manual, to reestablish our sense of direction. Then we will be able to keep our bearings among the "bricks" and "lumber," the constant challenges and the surface changes.

Two qualities that help in studying the Manual are honesty and humility.
