Some thoughts on body

From the September 1988 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Whoever is incompetent to explain Soul would be wise not to undertake the explanation of body." Science and Health, p. 200. This statement is found in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. To me this sentence has been a call and a challenge, not a prohibition. In Christian Science, Soul is a synonym for God. And through the study and practice of this Science, we can gain a modest competence in explaining the nature of Soul. While our grasp of Soul's nature is only in the beginning stages, Science enables us progressively to know Soul, God, in all His glory.

Science explains that Soul is one, with no opposite and no equal. Man is not Soul, nor does he have a personal indwelling soul, as is often surmised. Man is Soul's spiritual expression. He's witness to Soul's immortality and beauty, to Soul's soundness and goodness.

God, or Soul, is sinless, immortal Being. Soul is the origin of art and beauty, color and form, harmony and health. And Soul, the one Soul, gives to man his unique identity. We can say that Soul, God, expresses His infinite being in individual man, that is, in individual spiritual consciousness, embodying all His qualities.
