In the past thirteen years, since my first testimony was published in the periodicals, there have been many trials, and at times it seemed there were backward steps. Yet out of these difficult experiences has come steady growth in my understanding of Christian Science and a purifying regeneration. The lessons learned have brought untold blessings, and my gratitude to God impels me to share this testimony in the hope that others will be blessed.
Several years ago my wife passed on. The loss of a loved one who had shared my life for thirty-seven years was devastating, and I sought help from a Christian Science practitioner. He kindly offered words of comfort and explained that our Father-Mother God is and always has been our true companion. For a time there was progress in overcoming the feeling of loneliness and sorrow, but I still was looking for human companionship to fill the emptiness I felt in my life. Soon a friendship developed with a woman and we were married.
At first the marriage seemed a right step and we were happy. Then we became involved in an unfortunate real-estate situation. Within two years our home was in foreclosure. Irreconcilable differences appeared in our relationship, debts were piling up, and my business was failing. To make a long story short, the marriage was dissolved. Into my car was packed what remained of my belongings, and I drove across country to join my brother.
