Realize who you are!

From the September 1988 issue of The Christian Science Journal

For many of us it is pretty easy to see and accept that God is perfect. We may have more trouble, however, with the concept of man's being perfect right now. I know that as a new student of Christian Science I found this concept challenging, even though it is the very basis of demonstration in Christian Science.

If we think of ourselves simply as human beings living our own separate lives in matter, we will not be able to see ourselves as perfect. What is called mortal man, the human personality, is not perfect and cannot be. This is not the man that Mrs. Eddy is referring to in Science and Health when she writes, "Man is spiritual and perfect. . . ." Science and Health, p. 475. Then, who is this man?

Perfect and spiritual man is actually God's expression, His very reflection, or image. One dictionary definition of image is "a mental picture of something; conception; idea." Man is spiritual because he reflects God, Spirit. And because he is an idea reflecting divine Mind, he is Godlike; he is immortal; he is good. This is everyone's true identity—yours and mine.
