ENCIRCLING THE GLOBE

From the October 1990 issue of The Christian Science Journal

For thirty-eight years the Christian Science Society in Redcliffe had been holding services. Sometimes very few people attended. Redcliffe, and the state in which it's located, Queensland, are often thought of as a retirement area. Branch churches there had little experience in reaching out to their communities.

Then, three years ago, a family that included two Journal listed practitioners moved to town and joined the society. Things began to happen. Members began to see the need to expand their thought of Church, to recognize that the Church of Christ, Scientist, exists to serve the community, not vice versa.

Several people have come to their services in need of healing. Membership has doubled in recent years. As one member put it, "We're reaching out to the community, and they are reaching back."
