The material sciences—physics, astronomy, and the like—have undergone great changes over the centuries. In today's world, modern technology is giving out new developments and procedures almost faster than they can be absorbed. Sometimes these inventions seem to be beneficial to mankind, and other times they threaten great destruction. In the light of these developments it is interesting to consider Mrs. Eddy's use of the term Science. She says, "The term Science, properly understood, refers only to the laws of God and to His government of the universe, inclusive of man." Science and Health, p. 128.
God's laws and their practical application to the welfare of mankind are totally moral, spiritual, and good and have never changed throughout all eternity. God is divine Principle, the only cause and creator, and His laws express the character and power of infinite Love, the Father-Mother God. They constitute a creative, loving force, emanating from divine Mind, to produce an infinite universe of harmonious spiritual ideas. The real man, made in God's likeness, embodies the action of divine law in health, holiness, and happiness and eternally manifests obedience to it.
Christ Jesus was the human exemplification of real manhood; the Christ he bore witness to shows mankind how the laws of God can be made practical in human experience. Jesus adhered to these laws of God so completely that he was known as the Master. He was a great physician, healing all manner of diseases; he was outstanding in logistics, feeding five thousand by the multiplication of five loaves and two fishes into abundant supply for all. Mrs. Eddy tells us: "Jesus of Nazareth was the most scientific man that ever trod the globe. He plunged beneath the material surface of things, and found the spiritual cause." Ibid., p. 313.
