I will never cease to be grateful that I knew of Christian Science at a very young age. I attended a Christian Science Sunday School as a child and experienced many healings during those years. One of the most vivid healings occurred soon after my mother passed on when I was ten years old. Our father engaged a housekeeper who was a Christian Scientist to live with us and to care for the eight lively children of our large family.
One day I became ill while at school. The principal sent me home with what had been diagnosed as scarlet fever. Our housekeeper lovingly prayed for me, showing a mother's love. She also taught me a poem for children in Miscellaneous Writings by Mrs. Eddy:
Father-Mother God,
Loving me,—
Guard me when I sleep;
Guide my little feet
Up to Thee.
