Learning about Christian Science

Growing up in a home where Christian Science was practiced

From the June 1991 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It's really only logical that a study of Christ Jesus' teachings would make us healthier physically even as it makes us better individual men and women.

I saw a clear example of this when I was a youngster. A friend of the family was often ill. I remember him frequently in pain. He was dependent on alcohol and tobacco. He also seemed prone to being critical of others.

One day, this family friend began reading his Bible in a way he'd never done. He had been introduced to Christian Science. Though he'd been familiar with the Bible, this time, as he read, apparently it began to have a more profound meaning. He dug deeply into Christ Jesus' life and healing works. The gospel touched his heart. His complaining and criticism grew less. Gradually, warmth and a kindly bearing took their place. Over a couple of years, his character changed greatly. His health grew much better until he was entirely well.
