How Scientific argument and acceptance of truth heal

From the June 1991 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Spiritual healing is normal, natural. It is one of the "fruits" of the Spirit that Christians can expect as they follow Christ Jesus in the way. We know that the Master often healed effortlessly. To the lame man at the pool of Bethesda he simply said, "Rise, take up thy bed, and walk." John 5:8. To another, he said, "Go thy way; thy son liveth." John 4:50. And in both cases, the healing was immediate.

If we have not reached this Christly altitude of thought, where we heal effortlessly, this doesn't mean we can't heal or be healed. Christian Science shows how metaphysical argument can lift our prayers to that spiritual altitude which heals.

The Science of Christ explains that we must deny the error that seems to present itself and affirm the scientific truth that counteracts it. This arguing of truth to destroy error is not the use of formulas, but rather it relies on prayer and spiritual intuition. Such mental argument is fundamental to Christian Science practice. It prepares thought to accept the truth that heals.
