How very grateful I am that my mother relied on Christian Science treatment for me after scarlet fever had been diagnosed by a doctor from the health department. I recall the surprise of the doctor, who, after examining me again the following morning, told my mother I was completely healed. The quarantine sign placed on our house the day before was taken down, and I returned to school. In fact, I never had to miss a day of school because of illness for twelve years.
Is it any wonder that I chose to utilize the same effective healing power of divine Mind, God, for our four children! Their childhood was free of any serious illness. When they were sick, the healings came very quickly. Both my husband and I prayed—and still do pray, daily—for the health and well-being of our children and ourselves.
When our oldest daughter was in high school she injured her back while rehearsing a dance for the spring musical. She asked to be brought home. Since she couldn't stand or sit, some of the boys in the show used a door as a stretcher and brought her home in the back of a station wagon. We asked a Christian Science practitioner to pray for our daughter. This practitioner reminded us that Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health, "Unless muscles are self-acting at all times, they are never so,—never capable of acting contrary to mental direction." We felt strengthened by a deep conviction that Christian Science is the Comforter which Christ Jesus promised. We prayed to feel the comfort of the Christ. Our daughter slept peacefully that night.
