My life has been made so much fuller, freer, healthier, and happier through the study of Christian Science.
When I was nearing the end of my years at an English boarding school, I damaged a knee while playing cricket. I was taken to the school sanatorium, where the school doctor offered a gloomy diagnosis. He recommended that I visit a specialist. The specialist suggested that I either undergo an operation or try a program of physical therapy to see if that would work instead.
At that time I was less than a vigorous student of Christian Science. I accepted the medical verdicts and began the physical therapy. Over the next few years the difficulty kept returning, each time immobilizing me and causing great pain and fear. At one point I was given a medical exam by a panel of doctors checking me out for possible military service. The doctors declared that this was one of the worst examples of this particular condition they had come across. They said that an operation was essential to restore freedom of movement.
