During my childhood and teenage years I attended a Protestant Sunday School and church regularly. While I appreciated the Bible study and training I received there, my searching questions about God and man's existence were not answered satisfactorily.
In college I met a young man who was a Christian Scientist. When we began talking about marriage, I was worried about his religion, which I did not understand. I asked antagonistic questions that he wouldn't answer. Then a girlfriend suggested I ask him to take me to church with him. I did and he agreed. When I liked what I heard at the Sunday service in a Christian Science church and expressed a genuine interest, he was willing to answer my sincere questions. Soon I discovered that some of my classmates whom I admired were Christian Scientists and that this Science is a widely accepted religion.
The young man and I were happily married, and we continued attending church together. But I just couldn't believe the healings that I read about in testimonies printed in the Journal and the Christian Science Sentinel. I felt that the testifiers must be good, honest people; yet I wondered how such things could happen.
