The book of Genesis tells us that Jacob once had a vision. While he slept, "he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it." Gen. 28:12. In this vision, God assured Jacob of His guidance and provision, both for him and for his offspring.
It's interesting to think of Jacob's vision in relation to Christian Science treatment. When treatment is inspired by God, we gain a new and clearer view of divine reality. But this insight is not abstract, is not without connection, so to speak, to the human condition.
In a certain sense, treatment could be likened to a ladder set up to heaven, whereby profound truths regarding the spiritual nature of God and man come to us; and these strengthen us spiritually so that we are able to deny as illegitimate and unreal the evidence of sin, sorrow, pain. Then it's natural to reach a point in our prayer where we can see—to an extent we had not been able to before—that divine Love is in fact here, right now, caring for us. "Surely the Lord is in this place; and I knew it not," Gen. 28:16. Jacob said after he woke.
