When our children were young, I had a painful back condition. At times it was very uncomfortable to sit or straighten up. I realized that I needed to grow in my understanding of man and his inseparable relationship to God as His likeness, spiritual and perfect. Thinking in this way took patience and thoughtful devotion to the spiritual facts I knew to be true.
It became very natural for me to pray daily to know my true selfhood as the loved child of my Father-Mother God and the expression of His completeness. I endeavored to live Godlike qualities. Specific prayer in this way continued for some time until the healing was complete. A statement from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mrs. Eddy helps me understand how this healing was accomplished: "When mortal man blends his thoughts of existence with the spiritual and works only as God works, he will no longer grope in the dark and cling to earth because he has not tasted heaven."
I've continued with daily prayer for our children and my husband, our extended family, our community, and the world. I am deeply grateful for Christian Science and for the joy that has filled our lives through working daily to demonstrate its practical, spiritual truths. As I have grown in my understanding of God and His government of my life, I have come to appreciate more fully the wonderful import of the Bible, the lives of the prophets and the apostles, and the works of our Master, Christ Jesus. Science and Health provides practical insight into the divine law behind these works. This insight can bring spiritual enrichment and guidance into every activity.
