My family has been depending on Christian Science for healing through four generations. I am continuously glad for this wonderful understanding of God that was revealed by Mary Baker Eddy. It is a constant source of strength and blessing. The provision for class instruction has been vital to my spiritual progress. I've had many healings, but one stands out because of its completeness and far-reaching effects, and the joy it brought. It is a reminder of how a greater understanding of God can cure a physical problem and heal an emotional problem at the same time.
A tree had been felled on my property I was helping with the task of pulling big branches from a slash pile and placing them in a fire. One branch I was tugging at suddenly broke loose, and the cut end hit me in the eye with great force. This was extremely painful, and the eye was injured.
I began to declare that my God-given ability to see correctly was not material but spiritual, and to affirm my divine right to have spiritual insight and inspiration. I was taken home, where I contacted a Christian Science practitioner. She immediately calmed my fear by reminding me that in God's spiritual kingdom, where man truly dwells, there can be absolutely no accidents. She also assured me that she would pray with me to know the complete harmony of my existence. Just two days later I was in my place as an attendant in the local Christian Science Reading Room. There was no evidence that an accident had occurred—not even a trace of a black eye.
