Our family is unspeakably grateful that my grandmother accepted the book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy when it was offered her in 1895. Five generations—of which I am the third—have now benefited from this book, the Christian Science textbook.
As a young girl, my grandmother was in a sleigh accident, which had resulted in spinal curvature, treated unsuccessfully by doctors for many years. She was healed during the period in which she first read Science and Health. My own mother had many outstanding healings through Christian Science. My grandmother lived in our family home and had an exceedingly strong influence on my religious development.
Although he was not himself a Christian Scientist, my dad required us to read the entire Bible Lesson each day. This enabled us to become increasingly well acquainted with the Bible and Science and Health throughout the years. As teenagers, my brother and I enjoyed careers in the theater. Once a dislocated shoulder was healed shortly before an opening night performance. One time in London I was healed of laryngitis overnight. After another performance in Chicago, I was healed quickly of a strained leg ligament.
