Recently I had what appeared to be a serious gum infection. I experienced a lot of discomfort in both eating and swallowing. This had gone on for several days and was getting worse, so I asked for help from a Christian Science practitioner. I also continued my own prayer with the expectation that spiritualizing my thought would result in healing.
A few days before, I had come across this sentence in my daily study of Christian Science: "The divine Science of man is woven into one web of consistency without seam or rent" (Science and Health, p. 242). This quotation came back to thought. I believed the statement was saying that Truth, God, understands man to be entirely well, intact, now and forever. Whatever is seamless is perfect and whole. I looked up to rend in the dictionary and found one of the definitions is "to lacerate mentally or emotionally." I found I was believing that man could have lacerations in his gums, causing pain and emotional distress. That's a lie, of course, in light of the fact that the Science of the Christ "is woven into one web of consistency without seam or rent."
This verse from Psalms was helpful: "The king's daughter is all glorious within" (45:13). It nearly leapt off the page at me! It really touched me, and ideas began to flow. Who is this king? Well, God, our Father-Mother, the creator. And I'm His creation. Who is His daughter? His idea, reflection, who is perfect as He is perfect. That includes me.
