I would like to thank God for a healing that occurred just after my husband and I had gotten engaged. On a hot summer day we were on a long drive to visit my family, and about two hours before reaching our destination, the car overheated.
We found a small gas station, and I jumped out of the car to assist my fiance by lifting the hood. As I did, boiling fluids exploded out of the engine and sprayed my bare leg. The pain was so intense that I found myself losing consciousness. But even before this happened, I remember, I firmly stated the beginning of "the scientific statement of being" to myself: "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 468).
When I regained consciousness, my fiancé was there with me, praying. This was the first time he had witnessed such an injury, and he had been studying Christian Science for only the past eight months. He helped me to a telephone, where I called my parents. My mother agreed to ask a Christian Science practitioner to help me through prayer. Then my parents offered to drive to where we were and pick us up.
