In 1946 I had three remarkable physical healings with the loving help of a Christian Science practitioner, which brought me into the study of Christian Science.
This was right at the end of World War II, and I had just opened a new sales business. I had no present income in sight. Several people in related fields had told me that it would take at least one year to have enough income to cover my business expenses and up to three years to cover living expenses. I had sufficient resources to cover my family's needs for only six months, and frankly I was scared—my wife and I had three little children.
I put together voluminous lists of manufacturers in my state, and for three months meticulously covered my territory. I was aware as well that even upon obtaining orders, I'd have to have metal dies built, as well as samples made and approved—and all this would be needed before the production took place. So it seemed I was a long way from receiving any money.
