When a large, painful sac of fluid appeared beneath my upper arm, I was concerned that it needed to be removed in some manner. I prayed for myself and endeavored to stay with Mrs. Eddy's statement "Mind creates His own likeness in ideas, and the substance of an idea is very far from being the supposed substance of non-intelligent matter" (Science and Health, p. 257). I also had to destroy extreme fear, and am sincerely grateful for the friend and practitioner who prayed for me at those times when the condition seemed most aggressive.
Another statement from Science and Health was helpful: "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive" (p. 463). Such powerful statements from other writings of Mrs. Eddy came to mind over a period of a couple of weeks, and I truly companioned with these angels.
Statements regarding the certainty of Christian Science healing were especially reassuring. As I began to "take them at their word," my spiritual conviction grew, more and more, and I could trust that something wonderful was about to happen.
