One day a fellow Christian Scientist I was talking to spoke of how important it is to be vigorous in resisting the suggestions of need for eyeglasses and hearing aids. He felt that apathy often resulted in a failure to heal these difficulties.
I thought of the reading glasses reposing in my handbag (of which he was not aware).
For twenty-five years I had been relying on them to enable me to read the telephone book, or a map, or to thread needles, or to read anything for any sustained period. I had to admit that I had made little effort to apply the laws of God in order to correct this belief. It seemed easier to put on the glasses. I decided I would make a real attempt to deal with the situation.
