Testimonies of Healing

I am deeply grateful for the sustaining...

From the September 1996 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am deeply grateful for the sustaining influence of Christian Science in my life. Expecting good, knowing that good is God's will for me, has made me listen for God in times of need. Two instances come to mind because they made me feel God reaching out to me.

Some years ago my husband and I attended a banquet for lawyers. There were easily more than a thousand people in the large hotel banquet room, for dinner and the annual variety show. Halfway through the show, the immense steel frame supporting the heavy velvet curtains collapsed forward into the audience. It was like a slow-motion nightmare. A scream went up from the audience. The single performer then on the stage emerged from the collapsed backdrop, and the audience applauded on seeing that he was safe.

The room had adequate exits, I suppose, but they started looking smaller and smaller. Emergency lights went on, as the main power was cut. A feeling of panic started welling up in me, and I felt an urgency just to get out of there!
