Hallelujah!

From the January 1998 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Not as in a stadium roaring with rowdy calls,
which glumly silent falls
when the team stumbles;
But in prayer and in life,
show me the lasting cheer
You will.

Not a cheer that rumbles with delight when things go right,
then grumbles in defeat when life seems not so sweet.

No, not cheering that rises and falls with opponent's moves.
But rather, imbue me with Your cheer!—
Your holy "hurrah!" proclaiming good to be the law!

Let my happy sense be straight from You, pure, constant, true;
instill in me spiritual reason for heavenly cheering:
that gentle, clear delight
that Love is All,
and all is right.

Then, whatever error's "move,"
I can calmly prove
that Truth alone is here.

And cheer!
