I was a few weeks into a new teaching post when I lost movement in my left arm, the arm I use to write with. On the face of it, the picture was bleak. The condition was very painful.
Within twenty-four hours I found myself unable to sleep or to sit still for any period of time without severe discomfort. To human sense, there appeared to be a number of explanations for the pain, among them a minor baseball injury or damage from carrying a heavy briefcase each day.
Because I couldn't sleep, I had the entire day and night at my disposal for prayer. So I set to work to demonstrate my freedom. I quickly contacted a Christian Science practitioner, who, despite my expressions of desperation, remained confident that the physical evidence of injury and pain was unreal and could be corrected by the spiritual truth.
