Testimonies of Healing

Prayer heals pain

From the April 1999 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christ Jesus admonished his listeners to "judge righteous judgment" (John 7: 24) . I want to share two recent healings that came about because I refused to judge on the basis of the material evidence.

I woke one morning feeling fine, got out of bed, and began to sneeze violently. I sneezed for perhaps the next fifteen minutes without stopping. From my understanding of Christian Science, I knew better than to attribute this to a physical cause, such as a cold, allergies, or anything else. I firmly dismissed it as simply a lie about my real identity—a claim of physical discomfort trying to obscure my spiritual nature and get me focused on matter. The sneezing stopped as suddenly as it had started. In spiritual reality, it had no actual cause or reason for being.

Later in the day, however, I was reminded of this onslaught of sneezing, and as I was thinking of it, the sneezing started again! This time I laughed. It was clearly my thinking about sneezing that had evoked it. I dismissed it again as an interloper, and it stopped immediately. It has not returned. I was so grateful that I had seen that the problem couldn't be real and powerful because it had no origin in God, and that I had entered my mental protest against it.
