Testimonies of Healing

Chest pain healed

From the January 2000 issue of The Christian Science Journal

About 4 a.m. I woke from sleep with intense heart discomfort. Immediately I declared that God was not attacking me. He was loving me.

I silently repeated the Lord's Prayer several times. Then it seemed best to get out of bed and walk. The kitchen window showed light beginning to break through the night's darkness. The thought that "God is light, and in him is no darkness at all" (I John 1:5) brought great comfort to me. Also this statement from Science and Health: "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive" (p. 463). Several hours earlier that evening, it had been announced that a huge offensive was taking place in Yugoslavia by American and NATO forces. It was a disturbing announcement to me. Now I must have stood a half-hour or more in the kitchen just focusing my thought on spiritual reality. I felt God's nearness. But it wasn't until I began silently to declare in earnest "the scientific statement of being" (see Science and Health, p. 468) that an assured release from the discomfort came over me. I was healed.

It was then 6 a.m. Two hours had passed, but I felt no sense of time or tiredness. The Bible Lesson (found in the Christian Science Quarterly) was on television at that time, so I eagerly tuned in. It was the frosting on the cake for me. The Lesson ended with a verse from the Sermon on the Mount: "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God" (Matt. 5:8).
