For Some Time I had felt pain in my feet. It hadn't hindered my activity, though, and I had even been able to go cross-country skiing. But the pain worsened, and at one point I was barely able to walk, and my feet felt numb. This sensation of numbness soon afflicted my legs and other parts of my body, as well. I was angry with myself that I hadn't turned to God in prayer earlier, when the difficulty had been less severe. I called a Christian Science practitioner for treatment through prayer. For the next few weeks, I prayed and studied more than I ever had before in my life. At first, however, there was no improvement, and I was afraid of what might develop.
I wondered if there was a simple medical solution, and if I was being foolish not to find out about it. In the past, though, I had seen the healing, regenerating power of turning to God in prayer, and I wanted to continue to seek healing in this way. Very soon the prayer began to renew my understanding of my identity as God's child. The spiritual ideas that I was seeing more clearly lifted my heart, despite the way my body felt.
Prayer began to renew my understanding of my identity as God's child.
