Testimonies of Healing

Weakness and limitation overcome

From the January 2000 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When I was a young woman, I went to New York City to pursue an acting and singing career. I had become interested in Christian Science when I was a teenager, so I had attended a Christian Science Sunday School, which I loved, for a few years. But when I was on my own in New York, I seemed to have such a limited supply. I didn't buy things I needed; I walked great distances to save bus fare; and I didn't eat normally. To save time I rushed around trying to do two things at once. Mary Baker Eddy writes in Miscellaneous Writings: "Rushing around smartly is no proof of accomplishing much" (p. 230). That's exactly what I had been doing.

I became weak and limited in what I could do. I had to stop everything and call a Christian Science practitioner for treatment. This was the beginning of my learning. "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (Science and Health, p. 494). In God's creation, there is no such thing as limitation.

With our prayers, the practitioner's and mine, my healing was taking place. I soon started being active again. But even after becoming quite successful in my career, I had to watch very carefully to keep out that limited thought.
