Here's a brief report from the librarian of the Jointly-Maintained Downtown Christian Science Reading Room in Seattle. It shows how the Reading Room played a significant role in the community at the time of the World Trade Organization meeting last year.
In preparation for the WTO meeting, our Reading Room ordered fifty extra copies of The Christian Science Monitor per day. On Monday I went with another Reading Room worker to the area where the conference (as well as protests) was to take place. Amid the chanting of peaceful protesters, we stood on opposite sides of the street with Monitors. Many recognized the paper and asked for it.
