When I was in university, I was working backstage on a play. One night after the show, I came down with severe stomach pain. I was unable to eat, drink, or get out of bed. I called for and received treatment from a loving Christian Science practitioner. Among the helpful ideas she mentioned to me were those from a hymn that begins, "Fight the good fight with all thy might, / Christ is thy strength, and Christ thy right" (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 59). Though my complete healing took about two weeks, I experienced no ill effects from being unable to eat.
About four years later, while visiting another country, the problem occurred again. I called home to a practitioner, and the difficulty vanished in a couple of days, so that it was possible for me to enjoy the rest of the holiday.
The final healing took place a few years later. I came home from work with the same trouble. My mother called a practitioner on my behalf. Before she had even hung up the telephone, I felt the pain lift away. It was the most amazing thing: I was in complete distress one minute, then free of pain the next. This was more than 20 years ago, and I have been totally clear of this difficulty ever since.
