"This is about my being"

From the June 2000 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The First Church of Christ, Scientist, has always considered spiritual education for young people essential. Mary Baker Eddy's design for her Church included a thorough system of education, beginning with Sunday School for children up to the age of twenty. In this interview, the Journal asked , Clerk of The Mother Church, , Superintendent of The Mother Church Sunday School, and , Manager of Sunday School Activities in the Clerk's Office, to speak about how Sunday School is effectively meeting the need for such education today.

Why is Sunday School so vital and relevant for young people?

Olga Chaffee: It's natural for children to turn to what is good. They have an intuitive desire to discover what is good and legitimate, much as a plant seeks the sunlight. The plant doesn't have to be taught to do that. When children hear the truth, they intuitively know "this is about my being."
