"THIS IS WOMAN'S HOUR ..." THE LIFE OF MARY BAKER EDDY

New England "Homecoming"

"For the world to understand me in my true light, and life, would do more for our Cause than aught else could." Letter from Mary Baker Eddy to Edward Kimball, October 15, 1893

From the June 2000 issue of The Christian Science Journal

At A Gathering of more than a hundred distinguished guests and members of the public at the Boston Public Library during National Women's History Month in March, State Representative Byron Rushing presented a resolution by the General Court of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts honoring the legacy of Mary Baker Eddy to The Christian Science Board of Directors and the Publisher of the Writings of Mrs. Eddy.

The resolution noted that among Mrs. Eddy's many achievements, she had overcome "the limits placed upon her during a time in which women's rights were not universally recognized, and established a new denomination based upon the teachings and healing ministry of Jesus." It recognized and honored Mrs. Eddy for "the many contributions she has made to the Commonwealth as a Christian healer, an author, an educator, a religious leader, and a publisher."

The governments of the District of Columbia, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire have passed similar resolutions honoring Mrs. Eddy.
