Recently I was reminded of the statement from the book of Proverbs "As he thinketh in his heart, so is he." Prov. 23:7. This set me to questioning my innermost thoughts. Who do I think I am? I knew that Christian Science, in the light of Bible teachings, explains that God's creation is good, and that it is spiritual, not material. The children of God, Spirit, are not made up of anything that can decay, be diseased, or be destroyed. Science and Health says: "The Scriptures inform us that man is made in the image and likeness of God. Matter is not that likeness. The likeness of Spirit cannot be so unlike Spirit." Science and Health, p. 475. Our true identity, then, is spiritual. It is not a sinning, suffering mortal, made of the dust of the ground as in the allegorical story of creation. See Gen., chap. 2 .
My soul-searching turned me right to the Holy Bible and to Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures in order to reestablish in my consciousness the absolute truth of my being. As a student of these two books, I am constantly gaining a knowledge of who I really am. Each day I see more clearly my relationship to God, and my own and others' true identity. I find it necessary to study and pray daily so that I don't forget or lose sight of spiritual truth.
A few years back I did forget — or rather, I was temporarily distracted by pain and disease symptoms I was experiencing. I was concerned, to say the least. But because I had seen so many healings through prayer alone, I knew that I would find help and healing through turning to God.
