Anyone can pray—and respond to prayer

From the November 2002 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A little boy sensed that his dad was struggling. And he was right. An intense headache was taking over. The child put his arms around his father and said, "It's all right, Dad. God loves you." A short time later, the man realized his headache was gone.

The boy's innocence and acceptance of God's love were simple, and yet they had a powerful and immediate effect on his father's health. This kind of conviction is a wonderful foundation for your prayers and mine.

If this child, with a few heartfelt words, could offer such an effective prayer, then anyone can do it. No special theological training is needed. No polished ritual. The fact is that there's nothing complicated about real prayer. Anybody has the ability to pray like this child did. It's a natural capacity and right.
