One morning as I was preparing to leave for an appointment in town, I realized the electricity was off in our area and the garage door wouldn't open automatically. So I lifted the door myself. After driving the car out, I went back to lower the door. Once I had hold of its leading edge and pulled, it came down faster than I was expecting, so I put both my hands on it to slow it down. At that moment the next section of the door closed on my fingers. I heard a cracking sound, and I thought I might lose my fingers, which remained caught in the door.
At the same time, an awareness of God's might and nearness was filling me with an assurance that I was never separated from Him or out of His sight. I surrendered to His care. Without making a conscious effort, I moved my knee under the door and this stopped it from falling any further. Then by raising my knee, I was able to move the door back up until my hands were free.
An awareness of God's presence filled me.
