Healing of kidney stone

From the November 2002 issue of The Christian Science Journal

As the project manager for my company, I traveled frequently to Europe. During one of these trips I had an upset stomach and was uncomfortable with back pain. Shortly after checking into my hotel I called my wife and asked her to pray with me. I wanted to feel God's love and presence all around me as I had many times before. The next day was very demanding, but I felt fine. That night in my hotel room, I thanked God for this physical healing, as well as for the resolution of some business issues. For the rest of the trip, I wasn't bothered by any other health problems.

A few weeks later, however, the same symptoms appeared again. I was afraid that this might be something serious, so I started to pray. This statement from Science and Health struck a chord with me: "Instead of blind and calm submission to the incipient or advanced stages of disease, rise in rebellion against them" (p. 391).

I asked myself, "Was I blindly accepting sickness?" I truly believed God was my creator and that He made everything very good. Sickness did not fit the definition of "very good," and rejecting the sickness, while also affirming the truth of God's goodness did bring me relief.
