A WORLD OF SACRED TEXTS

A book that brightens Scripture

From the November 2002 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In 1990, when I started to read Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, I was quite skeptical and more than a little cynical about the book and its impact on people's lives. A Jewish woman from New York had given me a copy of the book and told me that it had changed her life.

I thought, "I've read enough books." After all, I had studied most Scriptures, read many philosophers, and tried different faiths and organized religions. While I had found many good ideas in all of them, I still could not find the answers that I was seeking.

After much nagging on my friend's part, I agreed to read Science and Health, mostly just to get her off my back. My plan was to show her that Christian Science didn't work. I was in for a surprise! Science and Health not only taught me that if you change your thinking, you change your life, but it also illuminated the truths in the other Scriptures I had read.
