Back in the saddle again

From the March 2005 issue of The Christian Science Journal

One Christmas, my wife gave me a bicycle. Everyone else in the family knew about it, but I was completely surprised. I hadn't owned a bicycle in years.

It's too cold and snowy during our Michigan winters for bike riding, so I kept my gift in the basement near the treadmill I use for exercising. Every morning I would look over at the bike and wonder if I would ever take up riding again.

I was unsure because a few years earlier, I'd been bothered by serious foot pain. With every step, I would feel a sharp sensation in the balls of my feet and in one of my heels. Walking was difficult, and I almost had to limp.
