SQUARE ONE

From the July 2009 issue of The Christian Science Journal

COULD CHRISTIAN HEALING ever be anything but new every morning? It's at least as new as the moment the mind opens to God's constant presence, power, and care—those indicators of Christ's healing action in the world today. It's a presence and action that defies boundaries of geography or culture, of income or influence. A spiritual power that has no material equal. A care that never leaves the health-seeker alone or wanting.

The promise of Christian healing is close to the heart of the Journal's message every month. But for anyone who's in need of healing, or for those who want to know how to be a better healer—and don't we often toggle between those two related desires?—more than reassuring words are called for. It's natural first to want evidence that healing is possible, that it's going on today. As you make your way through this issue you'll find plenty of solid evidence in the articles, reports, and testimonies. Leigh Daugherty's lead article this month, "Keeping Confident in Christian Healing" (p. 42), offers a great starting point.

Still, you may find yourself seeking something beyond the good news of another's demonstration. The searcher within each of us craves fresh insights that lead to a deeper understanding of God's nature—an awakening to some bedrock truth, to the lawfulness of health and spiritual being, to God's love in this very moment. With such mental movement come changes in the way we think, the way we perceive ourselves and the world around. And Christian healing has another new day. You'll have your own evidence to offer up—and our e-mail in-box is always open.
