I love the Lord’s Prayer, and I love Mary Baker Eddy’s “spiritual sense” of the prayer, too. The inclusive love in this prayer embraces the universe. Recently, the Lord’s Prayer comforted me as I was trying to gain a clearer sense of God’s nearness and love for each of us as individuals. These lines came to me as a conversation, in words I would use with a friend—a conversation with God, who is near, listening, and loving each one of us:
Father-Mother God, You’re here, and heaven is here, too.
Your name and nature are precious to me.
You govern here and everywhere, now and always.
Your will is entirely good, and it’s all I could ever want; there is nothing to oppose it.
Feed me with love, and wisdom, and understanding—today and always.
Please forgive my mistakes, and show me how to forgive myself and others.
I know You never send evil or temptation to me or anyone, and You keep me from
being fooled into thinking evil could ever be real.
And I know I am in Your kingdom; no one can ever be outside Your kingdom.
Your goodness is all-powerful, everywhere, and forever!
